People have various views on how to handle the situation of a child that suffers from autism. Some parents state that they need to be practical and move on, sequestering the child in a facility where they can be cared for. Others consider this to be heartless, and would rather keep the child around, even if they never learn to communicate. It is however safe to suppose that both instances can help if used well together. Keeping the child around family and love, and bringing the professional in to check them out from time to time.
Halfway to late through the last century, people began to observe the specific differences between autism and schizophrenia, and distinguish them from one another. I say that took long enough because it was not until thirty or os years later that most Americans even started to notice the condition at all. Thankfully, our autistic kids no longer get treated for delusions that would have been just horrid.
Learn what you can about autism today so that you are not taken by surprise some day when you are faced by one of those kids that don’t seem to respond to anything you have to say. They would just stand there and stare, and you could talk, yell or gesticulate all you want, and elicit no response whatsoever. That would be a rude shock on its own, but the worst part would be if it was a child of yours. Don’t wait until that happens to you.
There are all kinds of reasons why a child may suffer from autism, and as yet researchers do not know them all. One such reason is genetics and DNA, which has more or less been proven; and another reason is the environment in which the child was born, or something like that. Other risk factors exist, and until we have them all, we might not be able to cure autism just yet. Kudos to the researchers.
